We have summed up the process, and we break it down to 5 steps :-
Contact Your Insurer
For a standard renewal of your lapsed policy, your insurer may still offer a grace period. Otherwise, you must obtain a new auto insurance policy.
Avoid Driving
Driving without valid insurance can be dangerous. In the event of a car accident, you are not obligated to receive any coverage, even for minor damage. You may have to pay for your own car damage as well as that of any third parties involved.
Purchase New Policy
If your insurer has cancelled your policy due to non-payment of premiums, you must purchase a new policy. It is entirely up to you whether to reinstate a similar policy to your lapsed policy or to switch to a new insurance policy.
Prepare The Required Documents
Once you’ve decided on a policy, keep your documents on hand. This file should contain the following important documents and vehicle details:
- Details about your MyKad
- Your driver’s licence
- Certificate of Vehicle Ownership (VOC)
- Your lapsed automobile insurance policy documentation
Make Sure You Make Payment On Time Next Time
Take extra precautions in the future. Keep in mind that if you do not renew your policy before the expiry date, it will lapse. To keep your car insurance from lapse, pay your monthly premiums on time. Furthermore, ensure that you are aware of the expiration date of your policy.
